The Ian Tyson Limited Edition

The Ian Tyson Limited Edition Acoustic Guitar

With great pride MacKenzie & Marr Guitars introduced the Ian Tyson Limited Edition sitka spruce top solid wood acoustic guitar in the summer of 2010.
In order to accommodate a style of play that ranges from authoritative flatpicking to subtle finger picking we developed the new 'Alberta' body. Narrower at the upper bout, wider at the lower bout and deeper through the body than our cedar top guitars it's an ideal profile for a spruce top.
The back and sides are Mahogany. The neck is straight grain mahogany with rosewood finger board and bridge.
Production will be limited to 250 guitars, with each one identified as part of the limited series.

More information about Ian can be found on his web site.

Created to meet the demands of (and developed in conjunction with) accomplished performers the Legend series is our premier guitar collection.

PLEASE NOTE: We are sold out of the Ian Tyson Ltd for the balance of 2011. The next (and final) shipment will be late spring 2012. Now is the time to reserve your Ian Tyson Limited Edition acoustic guitar!

ERRATUM: Our partner W.Brett Wilson wrote a wonderful article about MacKenzie & Marr Guitars in the Nov 21, 2011 issue of the National Post. In the process of editing his text was altered, giving the impression the Ian Tyson Ltd was still to be introduced and would cost $2000. The guitar has been part of our collection for more than a year and sells for $1200. Here is the unaltered paragraph as Brett actually wrote it:

What’s next: John and Jonathan are creating a series of guitars that pay tribute to some of the finest acoustic performers of our time. Each model is crafted to highlight the style of a specific artist – the first being a Limited Edition guitar that pays tribute to legendary folk and country singer Ian Tyson. They are in the final stages of signing an endorsement deal with an American singer of the same vintage as Tyson. Now that they have a reliable manufacturing process, they’ll be launching their new signature guitar – priced at $2,000 and comparable to MUCH more expensive guitars - in early 2012, with a major emphasis on the American market.

A Very Nice Guitar

John and Jonathan,

I got my Ian Tyson Limited Edition yesterday. It arrived in a nice hard shell case and well packed in the shipping box. It arrived without a scratch. Heeding the warning label on the box, I had to wait a few hours before opening it as the guitar had been sitting in a cold delivery vehicle all day. I didn't want to take the chance that the heat in the house would shock the guitar and crack the wood or anything like that. It was a tough wait.

When I finally opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised. What a nice looking guitar. It looks fantastic and sounds great. As others have echoed, in the almost 40 years I've been playing guitar, I've had the chance to play a variety of acoustics (Gibson, Taylor, Fender, Guild, Yamaha) and this is by far the nicest one I've played. I 'test drove' it for over an hour last night and finally put it away to watch the hockey game. I will be playing it a lot more in the days and weeks to come.

You've got a real winner on your hands guys. Although delivery was delayed for three months, it was worth the wait. Thank you.

I give it 5 stars. Well done gentlemen!

Mike

Tyson guitar

WISH I HAD ONE , IT MUST BE REALLY GOOD TO TAKE 11 MONTHS AND COUNTING FOR THE ORDER TO FILL. STILL HOPING FOR THIS CHRISTMAS TOM

Absolutely beautiful

Everything about this guitar is terrific from the wood grain and finishing down to the resonant sustain. No one would ever believe it is a $1200 guitar. The balance between high and low end is really sweet. To my ear it has a much richer full body sound than the Martin's and Taylor's I've played. I'm glad I took the leap of faith and my Canadian boys delivered. Thanks

I couldn't help myself, I just returned from the local guitar store and challenged the different brands. Nothing in the price range came close. The Martin laminate is a joke comparatively. The closest I could find was a Morgan, another Canadian made guitar, the sitka/cocobolo was comparable at $3800 and the sitka/curly maple at $4990. both really nice guitars but I wouldn't trade. I've got happy written all over my face. Thanks again guys.

Ian Tyson Ltd. Edition

I received Ian Tyson Ltd. Edition as a 25th anniversary gift and it is my second guitar. I have only been taking lessons and playing for 1 1/2 years. My first guitar was an entry level, I would say, good quality, Canadian made acoustic and it served me well to get started. I had a chance to play a Martin in the spring and I was amazed by the difference in sound. My husband picked up on this and ordered a Mackenzie and Marr guitar and I am so glad he did. I would say that this guitar should do me for the rest of my life. What a great guitar! I love the depth and the huge range of sound that it produces. From classic rock to the new rock and roll,it all sounds wonderful coming out of the Ian Tyson. I don't have an amp yet, but have tried it out and there is virtually no difference in the sound with the amp compared to unplugged. This I understand is a good thing! My guitar teacher, who has a collection of guitars including vintage Gibson's loved the sound and the quality of this guitar. I have had this new guitar since June and it is breaking in and sounding better all the time.

Thank you for creating a guitar with such fantastic high end sound at a price that most people can afford.

Cheers
Sara

INCREDIBLE, EVERY ARTIST SHOULD BE PLAYING THIS

Hi guys, just got my guitar earlier this week, I haven't been able to put it down. It sounds so much sweeter than my Martin, way more depth and boom than my Taylor and I must honestly say this is just an incredible sounding guitar probably the best I've ever played. I've been playing for over 20 years, I've played expensive guitars and i must say the finish, attention to detail, and quality is really second to none. This is truly an amazing guitar. I truly believe it is more than just a good old fashion country finger style picking acoustic, it can do and be so much more. I want to thank you for the amazing service, the fast shipping and who says you need to go into a guitar shop and try a guitar, if you know what you are doing and understand quality then all you need to do is buy a Mackenzie & Marr built guitar.

Thanks again guys.

An absolute beauty of a

An absolute beauty of a guitar. The fullness of the sound surpasses anything I've ever picked up in a store, in any price range, and surpassed all expectations I had. Like the previous comment, I highly recommend this guitar, and I too have been made a customer for life. On the customer service side, John Marr has my full respect for being such a pleasure to communicate with along the way. Do yourself a favour and give Mac&Marr a try.

I totally agree with you

Give a try, no you should just buy it. This has been such a treat. I have a permanent grin on my face this week and since I've got it.

WOW is an understatement

These guitars are truly amazing I second your comments and they have another customer for life.

Cheers

Alan
