A 12-String Guitar Tuner That Actually Works
We’ve made a few attempts over the years to build a reliable online tuner for 12-string guitars. For one reason or another, they never quite worked the way we wanted.
This week, we took another shot at it — and voilà — perfection. Or at least as close as you can get in a browser-based app.
How It Works
Using it is dead simple. Just pluck a string — the tuner will:
- Detect the course (pair) being played
- Identify whether it's the primary or octave string
- Show a needle-style tuner and the exact recorded frequency
When your string is in tune, the needle turns from red to green, and the frequency readout matches the target pitch.
Why It’s Better for 12-Strings
Sure, it works great for any six-string acoustic guitar — but where it really shines is in handling the unique challenges of 12-string tuning. Octaves and unison pairs are accurately identified and displayed, making the whole process faster and more precise.
