Solid Wood Acoustic Guitars with Projection, Sustain & Overtones
Because we don’t have distributors and dealers taking their share, we can invest more of your money into the guitar itself.
Traditional guitar brands divide the selling price between the manufacturer, distributor, retailer, and often a sales representative. MacKenzie & Marr sells directly to musicians, allowing us to invest more of your purchase price where it matters most: premium tonewoods, Grover tuning machines, bone nuts and saddles, natural wood and bone bridge pins, professional setup, and rigorous quality control.
The MacKenzie & Marr Sound
At MacKenzie & Marr, our sonic objective is not simply volume or brightness, but harmonic musicality. Every guitar is designed around three core characteristics: strong projection, long sustain, and rich, in-key overtones. We believe exceptional acoustic instruments should not only produce beautiful notes, but allow those notes to bloom, develop, and interact harmonically over time. The result is a more orchestral and emotionally engaging voice — a sound that feels alive both to the player and to the listener.
Projection
Projection is how clearly and effortlessly the sound of a guitar carries outward into a room. Better tonewoods, skilled voicing, and responsive construction all contribute to stronger projection, allowing the instrument to communicate with clarity and authority even with a lighter touch.
Sustain
Sustain is the length of time a note continues to ring before naturally fading. At MacKenzie & Marr, sustain is one of the first considerations in the design of every instrument. Long sustain allows notes to remain alive long enough for the guitar’s tonal complexity and harmonic character to fully develop.
Overtones
When a string vibrates, it produces not only its fundamental note, but also additional harmonic vibrations called overtones. In a properly voiced guitar, these overtones remain musical and in-key, adding richness, dimension, and an almost orchestral quality to the sound. Poorly controlled overtones can create clashing frequencies sometimes referred to as wolf tones. Our goal is to create instruments where sustain and harmonic balance work together to produce a voice that is warm, complex, and emotionally engaging.
