The MacKenzie & Marr Tofino is a solid-wood Cedar top acoustic guitar that harkens back to a time of hand-craftsmanship - before CNC machines took over the production floor, bean counters ruled the office and "branding" replaced pride of artistry - Back to a time when the link between craftsman and musician still existed and back to a time when a simple commitment to deliver a well-made instrument at an honest price was all the "mission statement" needed.

We first introduced Tofino in January 2010 on the CBC program Dragon's Den, where Kevin O'Leary chose it over a much more expensive guitar in a blindfold test. Since then, Tofino has become our most requested model.

In 2020 we introduced a special limited edition of Tofino. We call it Tofino X (pronounced "ten"). Without surrendering any of the qualities of the original Tofino, we've added features to set this edition apart - genuine Maple binding on the body, neck and headstock as well as Abalone purfling around the top.

The original Tofino had a back and sides made from Okoume, an African Mahogany. In subsequent production runs, we moved to Indonesian Mahogany, in part out of concern for the unverifiable harvest practices in Central Africa. For 2020, with the advent of FSB certification and monitoring, we're pleased once again to use African wood - this time Khaya.ivornesis, the premium African Mahogany.

There is no standard electric pickup in this guitar, but the L.R. Baggs Anthem (perhaps the best pickup on the planet) is available as an optional extra. The pickguard is included in the case as a user-installed option. It easily attaches to the top with a self-adhesive backing for those who want a pickguard.

Our artisan-crafted Tofino marries the warm, rich tone of a Western Canadian cedar top with the projection and depth of the African Mahogany back and sides. The Neck is also Mahogany. The fretboard and bridge are Indian Rosewood. The nut and saddle are genuine bone.

A hardshell case is included at no additional cost with every MacKenzie & Marr guitar.

Bonjour, mon nom est Claude et je suis l'heureux propriétaire d'une très belle guitare Tofino X. Je suis un guitariste de salon et je joue également avec un voisin une fois par semaine. Nous avons commencé à jouer ensemble il y a un an et nous avons un petit répertoire de chansons françaises des années 60 et 70, de même que quelques pièces du répertoire anglais de pièces qui ont marquées notre jeunesse. J'ai eu l'honneur de jouer avec d'excellents musiciens dans les années 90 avec des instruments mythiques tel une Gibson J200. Depuis ce temps beaucoup d'eau a coulé sous les ponts et l'an dernier j'ai recommencé à jouer pour mon plus grand plaisir. J'avais alors acheté une petite Guild Jumbo junior qui m'a bien servi. J'ai commencé à regarder pour un instrument plus sonore, plus adapté au genre de musique que je pratiquais. J'ai essayé et acheté plusieurs guitares sans trouver mon bonheur, ce qui vous l'imaginé m'a coûté beaucoup d'argent mal dépensé. De plus le service après vente de la plupart des magasins d'instrument de musique laisse beaucoup a désirer, c'est une situation que nous vivons tous dans plusieurs autres domaines de la vie. J'ai acheté des grandes marques, Martin, Norman, Godin, PRS, Sigma sans jamais trouvé La guitare, celle qui me donnait le petit quelque chose de mieux qui en fait un instrument exceptionnel. J'ai alors découvert Mackenzie et Marr sur Facebook. Je ne connaissais pas cette marque et j'étais sceptique et pas convaincu que je pouvais acheter un instrument sans l'avoir touché, essayé. Puis, après ma dernièere mésaventure avec Martin, je me suis dit je me jette à l'eau je vais tenter ma chance avec Macc & Marr, je n'ai rien à perdre un de leur arguments de vente est que je peux la retourner si je ne sis pas satisfait à l'intérieur d'une semaine. J'ai donc commandé une Tofino X et suis allé la chercher hier à leur entrepôt de Montréal. J'ai été accueilli par Monsieur Marr en personne, quel chic type souriant et ravi de ma présence. NOus avons jasé un peu et passé au vif du sujet la Tofino. Il venait de terminé les ajustements. Lorsque la caisse s'est ouverte et que j'ai vu l'instrument, je n'en croyais pas mes yeux, de toute beauté. Je l'ai pris en main et plaqué quelques accords et les carottes étaient cuites, j'étais vendu. Quel instrument, quelle touche, quelle sonorité pour une guitare de cette taille. Et que dire du service à la clientèle, je me suis senti comme faisant partie de la famille, comme il fut un temps il y a très longtemps. Je serai un client fidèle la Riverboat me fait de l'oeil. N'hésitez-pas, jetez-vous à l'eau vous aussi si vous chercher un instrument exceptionnel à un prix aussi exceptionnel. Bonne musique à tous!

I was on the golf course when my wife sent a pic and message saying “Your package has arrived”. Needless to say, my decent round went down hill quickly as all I could think about was getting home to play my new Tofino X! I was impressed with the protective packaging for shipping and the case was just as impressive. When I first opened the case, I was even more thrilled. The guitar is beautiful! The abalone purfling and rosette add a richness to the cedar top. The African mahogany is beautiful sharp contrast to the top. The workmanship in the guitar is excellent. All in all, a beauty to behold. But things got even better when I started playing! The set up was excellent…the sound amazing…and the size is just what was seeking. I must admit some trepidation when ordering without holding and playing but the 7 day return policy got me over it. I have Seagull, Martin and Yamaha guitars which I thoroughly enjoy but find the Tofino the most comfortable. I am looking forward to many years of enjoyment with my new guitar.

This is the third Mackenzie and Marr guitar I have owned, first being a Tom Rush and then an Opeongo. Both are guitars I really liked but the former gone to my father and the latter to my daughter. The Tofino has much the same feel as a vintage Gibson SJ with the same gentle playability but a far superior sound. The Tofino isn't easily overpowered by percussive strumming and the whereas the Gibson can sound muted the M and M stays warm and clear.

The only negative I have was that it did need an initial setup as there was some buzzing.. But a slight adjustment on the neck, and bam! Beautiful sound and wonderful to play. I think my guitar time has increased tenfold since it arrived as it is so fun to play. I would recommend it to anyone!

I've had this guitar for about three months. It's actually the second guitar that I received. The first Tofino X had a minor cosmetic flaw that I could have likely simply ignored. It didn't affect the playability in any way, but it was always there, and it bothered me. I returned the guitar, under the "Love It or Leave It" seven day guarantee, and a replacement guitar was shipped to me without question. That guarantee is impossible to beat! This guitar sits on a stand, near my computer. I spend several hours each day at my computer and I find myself continually being inspired by something, and automatically reaching for this beautiful instrument. I've played for over fifty years. I've owned many different guitars, some at the lower end, and some way over the top, like a Martin D41 and a Bourgeois Custom Slope D, among others. The Tofino guitar is as playable, and as inspiring, as any guitar I've ever owned. The combination of tonewoods that are generally somewhat difficult to find in an acoustic guitar. The AAA western red cedar top over a AAA mahogany body was just what I was looking for. A soft, yet powerful and loud guitar with a very natural sound. Very attractive indeed. Feature after feature after feature totally unexpected in a guitar at this price. Maple binding top and botton. Also maple fretboard and headstock bindings. Abalone purfling. Rosewood fretboard and bridge. Grover Gold tuners. I could go on and on. This is definitely my goto guitar. Just picked up for a minute or two, often turns out to be an hour or two. I would highly recommend this very well priced, high end guitar, to anyone looking for an excellent quality instrument. Sometimes I can't even believe that it's really that good, at such a reasonable price. Dave.

This is my first M & M guitar and I am more than impressed with the beauty, quality, sound and the experience! A friend of mine saw it last week, had never heard of the company but after playing it he researched the company. He said it would easily compete with $3000 guitars. Looking forward to hearing how the sound continues to get better with playing and aging of the wood.

I've been playing guitar since 1964, professionally since the early 70s and I'm still playing today. I have owned many guitars...some no name, some big name, and they all make good and bad. In the last number of years, with aging shoulders I have found the smaller body guitars like 000's and OM's to be more comfortable. I bought a Martin 000 and used it regularly on stage for a couple of years. Having an eye for "bling" , when I saw the Tofino X I was intrigued so I read the reviews on it and decided to buy one. Here are my thoughts. First on the downside. Communication with the company could have been better...delivery took longer than I thought it would, but some of that is where I live. I requested the action be set a certain way, as it was advertised, and that isn't the way it came. I brought it to my guitar guy and he did a set up on it. The frets also needed to be dressed and the edges filed, but I've also had much more expensive guitars that needed that right out of the box too. (Remember what I said about good and bad.) I use light stings too...10-47, so not unexpectedly the smaller body guitar doesn't have a big booming sound, but I would have been shocked if it did. Final little disappointment is the tiny print on the inside which says "made in China". I have never associated "quality" with chinese made guitars, but more in that in a minute. I could be mistaken, but I don't think this is a fact that Mackenzie and Marr advertise. Pros...regardless of where this guitar was made, the workmanship is extremely good... actually as good as I've ever seen. Salute to the Chinese Luther. I'm still getting used to the L.R. Baggs Anthem, but that's not the guitar. This is a hard guitar to put down. While not overly loud, it has an absolutely gorgeous tone. Very warm and extremely well balanced. I have since sold my Martin as frankly it's not in the same league with the Tofino X. Depending on how I make out with the L.R. Baggs set up I may or may not use this guitar on stage, but it is the guitar I pick up first...every time. I also own a Taylor T5, Godin A6 Ultra and 2 Adamas, one custom made, and a couple of Gretsch's. At the end of the day, the Tofino X will be my "keeper"...and it was only $1600.00 delivered! All things considered, It's a 5 star guitar.

Wow!!! Great purchase. I have an acoustic Takamine that I purchased in 1984 and it has a beautiful tone with a natural volume but nothing compared to the Tofino X. Amazing price for this quality guitar and Mackenzie & Marr were exceptionally easy to deal with. Item was "as described" and received in excellent condition. Even the guitar case was impressive. I will gladly recommend Mackenzie & Marr to my music friends. Thanks again!

We can all go down rabbit holes with our research and I kept coming back to the site and debating which model was right to try. I decided on the Tofino and was blown away by the packaging, the quality of the case and the first impression upon opening. I have been lucky to have had some high dollar instruments over the years from the names we all know and I can say that the set up out of the box was every bit as good and in some cases, far better than the more recognized brands. We had a couple small issues that were resolved, promptly and professionally in such a refreshing manner that my head is still spinning. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed at twice this price point and even higher with the attention to detail and the beauty of the instrument before it is even played. I have a high end instrument from a company that begins with a "T" and it is exquisite but at the end of the day, I most often reach for my Tofino. John Marr's personal outreach with my minor issues made me feel that I was part of the family - Pull the trigger.

I find the Tofino X very comfortable to play chords and strumming. Fingerpicking and arpeggios aren't that comfortable compared to typical classical guitars of wider neck. The sound quality, in my opinion, is comparable to much more expensive guitars. Service is very personalized and friendly; I happened to meet their luthier and he was quite friendly as well as knowledgeable and passionate for guitars.
