The Ian Tyson Inspiration Acoustic GuitarI have had my M&M Ian Tyson for a little more than a year now. This guitar is a replacement for one that I purchased in late 2022. The first guitar had a non-repairable neck issue that caused buzzing above the 12th fret and it was replaced by M&M with the one I have now. I have waited a year to post this review since my 50+ years of playing both high end acoustic and electric guitars has resulted in the realization the good one’s only get better with time as the woods age and adjust to local climatic conditions. Based on a year of playing the Ian Tyson, I can unequivocally say this one is destined to be a great one. It holds tune as good or better than any guitar I have ever owned. The action/playability is superb and the tones continue to open-up and improve as the guitar ages. The volume range attainable in pure acoustic mode is excellent and the Anthem pickup does a great job of amplification without distortion of the guitar’s superb acoustics. In addition, both the fit and finish of the guitar are second to none. All that being said, for me this guitar is as much about the man and the music that inspired it as the guitar itself. Having resided in Elko, Nevada since the early 1990’s I got the opportunity to attend numerous Ian Tyson performances and he became one of my favorite entertainers in the “Cowboy” genre. Many were concerts where he performed in smaller venues where we got to meet Ian and he would graciously autograph CD’s and memorabilia. One particularly memorable performance took place outdoors in an idyllic cowboy setting at Red’s Ranch in Lamoille, Nevada at the foot of the Ruby Mountains where he performed with two of “The Gords” (Maxwell and Matthews). When I found out about M&M and the Ian Tyson Inspiration, I had to have one. My current repertoire consists of covers of many of Ian’s classics (“M.C. Horses”, “Navajo Rug”, “I Outgrew the Wagon”, “The Gift” and more). Having the guitar in hand and playing his songs takes me to a place far away from the hustle and bustle of the world we live in today. Special thanks go out to the crew at M&M for creating a masterpiece and the satisfaction that comes with playing it. Well done and R.I.P. Ian.
